ABOUT
Sankara Hotel & Spa Yakushima is the first and only luxury resort hotel on this unique island which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, that attracts nature – lovers from all over the world. The essence of the premium luxury experience is, of course, service, and this is where Sankara really earns its five stars, with the friendliest and most attentive service possible. Most of the staff are bilingual in Japanese and English, and several other languages are spoken as well. The spacious 29 rooms are furnished in a comfortable Balinese theme.

Perched on a hillside on the beautiful souther n island of Yakushima, Sankara Hotel & Spa is on a mission to bring the concept of “sustainable luxury” to the world of luxury resorts.
Yakushima is famous for its indigenous flora and fauna, including ancient yakusugi (Yakushima cedar) trees. This mission of sustainability and Earth-friendliness extends to the hotel’s outstanding French-style nouveau cuisine. Most of the ingredients are sourced locally, many of them wild vegetables and herbs gathered from the mountainsides of the island or grown in the hotel’s own herb garden.
The staff of Sankara (a Sanskrit word meaning “bounty from heaven”) take their responsibility to the community and the environment seriously, doing everything they can to make their operations organic, environment-friendly, and good for both the earth and the local Yakushima community.
